NDT Inspections for Fuel Storage Tanks and Pipeline
Verifying through inspection the quality of Fuel Tank Terminals
In March 2011, J&P (Overseas) Ltd was awarded a major contract from VTTI to construct a new oil terminal consisting of 28 storage tanks (total capacity 544,000m3) including a jetty that extends 1.2Km into the sea. The jetty hosts 18 pipelines ranging from 20 to 24 inch in diameter able to accommodate current and future workload though expansion of the terminal. This 300milion euro investment had to be completed within 2 years and strict timelines were set from the beginning.
J&P sought for an inspection company that would perform all Non Destructive Examination required by API 650 and ASME B31.3 codes monitoring in this way the quality of its contractors. In addition the steel structures of the Jetty were examined using Eurocode 3.
For the successful inspection of the project Nortest worked on a 24hour basis utilizing Level 2 and Level 3 inspectors in all disciplines. Working on a 24hour basis we were able to monitor the quality of welding and coating works which were reported fast and reliably to J&P’s Quality Manager.
Nortest’s expertise, in NDT inspections, has assisted J&P in monitoring the quality of works, of its subcontractors, allowing them to focus entirely on the construction process gaining valuable time.
Nortest has successfully completed the project within the strict timelines given and has ensured the quality of its services under the strict guidelines of ISO 17025.
